The Moreton Bay Discovery Centre is one step closer to becoming a reality. After several years of planning, support from the Queensland State Government and the Brisbane City Council has enabled the establishment of the Wynnum Manly Visitor Information Centre and the first stage of the Moreton Bay Discovery Centre on the William Gunn Jetty.
The building extension to house the complete Moreton Bay Discovery Centre Museum has been funded by an Australian Government Building our Future Community Development Grant with strong support from federal member Ross Vasta MP.
Funds are now being sought to create additional displays that showcase the natural history of Moreton Bay, along with the Indigenous and European history.
Because of the compactness of the available space, and the need to be continually updating, the displays will be mainly electronic and interactive. So rather than being a museum of curated artefacts, it will feature interactive displays that will inform and entertain and encourage repeat visits and make excursions on and around the Bay much more meaningful.
The fully operational Moreton Bay Discovery Centre will be a significant additional asset, not just for Wynnum Manly, but for Brisbane and South East Queensland.
