Easter 2020 will be different. The traditions of Easter have been completely turned on their head: no church services, and no family gatherings.
There will be no heading down the Bay, no camping, no beach, no Good Friday Creative Market, and no Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race.
This year we are staying home. Catching up on jobs, gardening, watching TV, and reading. Many of us will be emailing or phoning those we love, to check they are OK.
We can, however, go out for exercise. The Esplanade walk and bikeway is an ideal location: fresh air and paths wide enough to maintain social separation. The Esplanade also runs past Manly Harbour Village and grabbing a coffee is a good way to refuel and lift spirits. While in the Village, you might call into Manly News & Casket to pick up a magazine, or The Mad Hatters Book Shop for the latest novel or board game. And if you ever need an excuse to indulge in chocolate, Easter is the time. Check out the IGA’s great selection.
This may be an Easter like none other, but we can still cherish the blessings that we have: life in a beautiful location, amenities that we can still access, and most importantly friends and family.
