There were some Manly Village traders who, because of the public holidays, made the decision not to trade over the Easter Weekend as four consecutive days of gazetted public holiday penalty rates was just too much additional cost to carry.
To provide support for the Village traders who did stay open for trading, the Manly Harbour Village Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Manly Creative Markets, arranged to have – in addition to the regular Sunday Creative Market – a special Good Friday Market, and an Easter Monday Market.
In addition to these three Craft Market days, there was the regular Jan Powers Farmers Market on Easter Saturday. This was a Special Easter Market Day.
As an added Manly Harbour Village attraction for the Easter long weekend, “Notorious” the black replica, fifteenth century caravel pirate ship was berthed at the William Gunn Jetty and open for inspection each day. People came from far and wide for this experience.
The potential of having a difficult trading weekend with several traders not open and not a lot for visitors to Manly to do, was turned around and a terrific vibrant weekend ensued.
