On Saturday 15 September, Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Commodore Mark Gallagher will welcome the Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC to the Squadron at Manly for the official opening of the 134th Yachting Season.
The official opening will follow the Blessing of the Fleet, officiated by Reverend Peter Devenish-Meares.
The Fleet Sail Past will proceed after the official opening. This is a spectacle that can be viewed from the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron and several locations around the Harbour. Norfolk Point, at the entrance to the Harbour, provides particularly good viewing as the yachts and powerboats, brilliantly dressed with their linked signal flags strung from their highest rigging, turn to head back to the Yacht Squadron to salute the Governor.
For Manly, the opening of the yachting season heralds that spring has arrived: days warming with delightfully cool evenings. The Village restaurants will be presenting their new spring menus. So head to your favourite Village lunch venue, explore the new spring offerings, while away the afternoon and savour what it means to be beside the sea-side at such a glorious time of the year.
