Every first and third Saturday of the month, in arguably one of the most the most beautiful locations in the country, a community comes to life as growers, artisans, producers, bakers, cooks, florists and more converge for the Jan Powers Farmers Markets at Manly Harbour Village.
This winter, Bayside residents are in for a Flavour Fest as seasonal fruits and vegetables take a starring role at the markets – apples, bananas and avocados, rich and full of flavour; berries of all hues, plump and plentiful; lemons, limes, mandarins and oranges, as well as passionfruit and paw paw, ripe and juicy; and the heavies of the melons in rockmelons and watermelons; all tastier than ever. Fruit is in its element at the Manly markets during Queensland’s colder months.
Locally grown vegetables are also flourishing at the moment, with the hottest picks for the season being – broccoli, potatoes, pumpkins, and asparagus, as well as the cold-fighters of garlic, ginger and onions, and brussel sprouts which are tipped to make their culinary comeback this winter. “We are always on the look out to help local producers and artisan growers and providers. We provide the best quality local produce and artisan products in South-East Queensland, and this is thanks to our stallholders,” said Sammy.
Delivering on Jan’s vision, there’s more than just fresh produce at the MANLY Jan Power Farmers Markets – each is a place to connect with farmers, and there’s something for the kids too with the group’s Ground Force program showcasing where our produce comes from (and it’s not a milk carton or a grocery store shelf). Jan Powers Farmers Market is Manly’s go-to for fresh farm produce, flowers, breads, artisan products, meat, fish, poultry, plants and organics.
“Markets were the heart and soul of cities of old,” said Jan. “They were where families connected, where the city met and mingled, argued and loved; and the farmers markets are the modem day incarnation of this, therefore, they are at the heart of our neighbourhoods.”
